Supporting Full-Time Intensity law students evaluation project

Published on by Kate Bunker
Students studying for a law degree at full-time intensity have worse outcomes in terms of retention and success.  In 20-21 there was an increase in students studying at full-time intensity across all levels of the law degree, possibly linked to the impact of COVID-19 on students employment and family life.    There is an ongoing project to support law students studying at full-time intensity at all three levels of the law degree.  Three tutors have been appointed to run and moderate a forum specifically for full-time intensity students studying on a law module in the 20J presentation, and to run 6 online sessions to support students.  The project aims to develop a community of practice amongst full-time intensity students which will offer peer support, as well as guidance from tutors on issues which particularly affect these students.  This evaluation project will evaluate whether focused support through forums and online sessions provided by dedicated tutors improves retention, progression and satisfaction of full-time intensity students.  Key aims:  To evaluate whether such additional support impacts upon retention, progression and satisfaction  To ascertain whether students consider this support or additional alternative support, would be beneficial in future presentations  To determine whether such support is best focused across the degree or at specific levels  To formulate recommendations regarding support methods for full-time students for adoption in future presentations
