Project Summary: An exploration of staff perspectives about anti-racist and inclusive assessment (ARIA) in ECYS
Tutors in the OU School of Education Childhood Youth and Sport (ECYS) shared their understanding and experiences of anti-racist and inclusive assessment (ARIA). In an online survey they rated five existing or potential ARIA teaching scenarios in terms of their value for tutors and for students in open-access, distance learning higher education (HE):
1. Students developing learning outcomes and marking criteria
2. Assessments starting with a student reflection on how tasks were approached, difficulties etc.
3. e-group collaboration from the start of a module, leading to an assessed piece of work
4. Incorporating options for the format of assessment twice in a module
5. One ungraded assessment with the possibility of ‘swapping’ the grade later in the module
